Window Treatment Trends—2022
January 2, 2022
by Hunter Douglas
This year’s most popular window treatments directly reflect today’s trending fabrics, colors and styles.
As we turn the page to 2022, the home fashion trends we anticipate seeing are really a reflection of the new normal, and how it has shaped our day to day lives.
While there are plenty of predictions about the trends to come, here’s a look at five that will be key—and the window treatments that make the most of them.
Elevated Comfort
Spending more time at home—whether it be working from home, working out at home, or simply reconnecting with family and friends in person—calls for comfort. And just as our everyday attire has become more casual, so have our home’s interiors.
Formality has given way to functionality—and even if rooms look luxe, they’re meant to be lived in, with durable, yet inviting, fabrics and furnishings.

Organic Hues
Bringing the outside in continues to influence trending paint colors, with the spotlight focusing on hues of green. Two of the many calming varieties designated as top picks for 2022 include October Mist—a silvery, neutral-green from Benjamin Moore, and Evergreen Fog, a gray-green with a touch of blue, from Sherwin Williams.

Enhanced Wellness
Bringing the outdoors in, whether it’s through the addition of houseplants, a bowl of seashells or jute throw rugs, remains a top interior design trend—one that helps soothe and calm our psyches.
The window—a direct portal to nature—also brings the outdoors in, in the form of mood-boosting natural light.
Responsible Design
As mounting concerns about climate change shift responsible design from a trend to a must-have, recycled and repurposed materials and energy-efficient products are becoming even more important in our efforts to reduce our environmental impact.
Designer Screen Shades line, is made from reclaimed ocean plastic—in an effort to divert this waste from landfills.
And energy-efficient window treatments, like cellular shades, help lower our environmental footprint by providing added insulation at the window. Top choices for keeping your house snug when it’s cold and cooler when temperatures heat up include Duette Honeycomb Shades and Sonnette Cellular Roller Shades.
Smart-Home Technology
As more of us adopt smart-home technology as a way to add comfort, convenience and efficiency to our lives, the design of the gadgets and interfaces we use is softening, to become more in-tune and seamless with home interiors.
