Cordless Window Shades

Cordless blinds and shades are becoming increasingly popular, not only for their clean look at the window but also because they’re a safer option.

Cordless window treatments are becoming increasingly popular, not only for their clean look at the window but also because they’re a safer option if you have small children or pets that could get tangled in loose window cords.

What Does it Mean to have Cordless Blinds or Shades?

Cordless window treatments are what the name suggests—window treatments without strings or cords. Instead, they operate with a cordless lifting mechanism. There are a wide variety of window shades, blinds and shutters available that are designed to enhance child safety.

Cordless Operation with the Touch of a Finger

Available on many types of window treatments, manual cordless operating systems let you control your window treatments by pushing up to raise them or pulling down to lower them. (Some systems use a spring-assist mechanism.) Your shades stay in place without the need for constant adjusting.

If you have a patio or sliding-glass door, you can find similar operating systems that enable you to push your window treatments from side to side. Or, for vertical blinds or shutters, you could opt for a wand that traverses and rotates the vanes or louvers while remaining safely out of a child’s reach. All of these cordless systems offer a clean, uncluttered look at the window.

Shutters: Cordless by Nature

Shutters are inherently cordless. Before choosing an operating system, think about how much clearance you have. If there are a few feet of space around your window, you could get single shutter panels that hinge to your window frame and open out into the room. Or, you could have multiple panels hinged in a bi-fold design, so your shutters open like a fan. Bi-fold panels can also be configured on a track to accommodate door applications. If space is limited, the bypass track system allows your shutters to slide past each other—but keep in mind that only one side of your shutters can be opened completely.

Alternative Operating Systems for Shutters

In addition to the front tilt bar, which is standard for most shutters, there are other options for optimizing your view. You could select HiddenTilt™, which features a patented gear-driven system with no tilt bars for one-touch control and a completely clear view.
